SU HEALTH AND DENTAL PLAN

SU HEALTH & DENTAL PLAN
To help University of Alberta undergraduate students pay for the health services they need, the SU has partnered with Studentcare in order to provide students with extended health and dental coverage. The Plan is designed specifically for students to cover many services not covered by the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan and other basic health-care programs. In response to the rising costs of attending university, the SU introduced a flexible benefit model to the SU Health & Dental Plan: two different levels of coverage at different costs, an alternative to the traditional one-size-fits-all Plan.

Who is Covered?
All undergraduate students who pay SU fees and are enrolled in a minimum of 3 credit hours in either the Fall or Winter Term are automatically covered by the Plan.

What is Covered?
The Plan covers health, dental, vision, and travel benefits:
75% for prescription drugs to a maximum of $10,000 per policy year*
70 - 75% for vaccinations, up to $150 per policy year
Over $3,000 for health practitioners (psychologists, physiotherapists, chiropractors, etc.)
Over $300 in vision care (eye exams, eyeglasses and contact lenses, laser eye surgery)
Up to $650 in dental care (checkups, cleanings, fillings, extractions, endodontics, periodontics, etc.)
Up to $5,000,000 in travel health coverage per lifetime, 120 days per trip
Up to $7,500 for trip interruption and $3,000 for trip cancellation in the event of a medical emergency
Ambulances, dental accidents, medical equipment, and more!

Visit www.studentcare.ca for complete details.

How Much does it Cost?
Fall Term students: The total cost of the Comprehensive Care Plan is $361.40 for full-year coverage (Sept. 1, 2024 – Aug. 31, 2025).

Eligible students are automatically enrolled in the Comprehensive Care Plan. They have the option to opt-out during Change of Coverage period.

Can I Change My Coverage?
If you are covered by another extended health and/or dental plan (e.g. a parent’s or spouse’s employee plan), you can combine both plans to maximize your overall coverage and reduce or eliminate out-of-pocket costs.

Alternatively, you can opt out of the health portion, the dental portion, or the Plan in its entirety during the Change-of-Coverage Period from Sept. 3 – 27, 2024. You will receive a credit to your student account for the amount of the Plan.

If you are eligible, the Change-of-Coverage Period is also when you can enroll yourself and your spouse and/or dependent children in the Plan. Only new Winter Term students can opt out or enroll themselves and their spouse and/or dependent children between Jan. 6 – 24, 2025 for coverage from Jan. 1 – Aug. 31, 2025.

How Can I Save More?
You can further enhance your benefits by visiting health professionals who are members of the Studentcare Dental, Pharmacy, Vision, Chiropractic, Psychology, Physiotherapy, and Massage Therapy Networks. You are covered for the insured portion regardless of the health professional you choose. By consulting a Network member, you will get additional coverage.
