Food Pantry

In the last year it has become apparent to the ASA that students are feeling the pressure of food insecurity. We as the Students Association wanted to address this issue, and saw the best option to be to create a supplementary food hamper for students. The goal with this service is to supplement a student's grocery needs, not to take over it entirely. We want to help alleviate their financial pressure, and let them spend that money on other pressing matters such as tuition, rent, emergencies, etc. This will be a long standing service of the ASA, and new policy is being written to ensure its continuation and longevity. 

 

This is a free supplementary non-perishable food hamper meant to replace 25% to 35% of food costs for students, so their money can be spent on other bills (rent, tuition, etc.). Currently food hampers are being distributed once a month, and registration and applications are open to all current Augustana Students with a valid One Card. Students in Camrose are eligible to receive physical food hampers, those who are not near campus can still apply to receive the equivalent in grocery store gift cards. 


 

Registration

Registering for your first food hamper is easy, just fill out the Food Pantry Registration Form from the link or QR code below. Once the ASA gets the request we will contact you to confirm your registration, and set up a pick up time on one of the specified days. If you are already registered with the ASA Food Pantry and have received a hamper before, please fill out the Food Pantry Request Form (found below).

 

Registration opens on Monday December 14th and will close Friday December 18th, hamper distribution will be on Monday the 21st and Tuesday the 22nd. The next hamper application period will be Monday January 11th to Friday the 15th, distribution will be January 18th asnd 19th.

Distribution

More information regarding distribution/pick up will be available soon. The ASA wants to ensure the safety of our community, and do our part to limit the spread of Covid-19 while still helping students. Upon receiving a hamper request, the ASA will send out a link to register for a pick up time, this is to ensure that all Covid-19 and UofA restrictions can be met. Please ensure you have a mask and a valid OneCard at pick up for name and ID# verification. 

 

Food Pantry Response to COVID-19

The ASA Food Pantry offers our hamper program, with increased safety and sanitation procedures. We register new clients via phone. We offer in person, socially distanced pickups, and deliveries in certain circumstances.
