Your ASA Executives

ASA President 2019/2020 - Philip Miheso

“Imperfection is beauty. Madness is genius. It is better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring.”- Marilyn Monroe.

Hujambo? My name is Philip and I believe in imperfections being the path to attaining success, so, yes, I am slightly awry, and I hope that’s okay with you! I am a 2nd Year Business Economics Major that is born and bred in Kenya. My love for environmentalism and gummy worms is coupled with a passion for football and jamming to a good song. It goes without saying that we are now entering or are already in our final battles in the war to gain an education.

Before I was elected as President, I was the Afri-Youth Club’s Event Co-Ordinator and member of the Diversity Working Group, championing for students of minority backgrounds within the school. More so I have been involved in service projects in my home-country Kenya and Vietnam where we worked to better the lives of the locals in specific areas. My drive to be an advocate for students developed earlier in life when I was a council representative and house captain. Many a time I would be mentioned together with the environmental conservation drive Rhino Charge because of my never-ending drive to educate Kenyans on the need for forest and wildlife conservation. My goals this year include increasing advocacy for students in committees involving school functionalities, increasing student involvement on campus activities as well as bring together the diverse population of the Augustana Campus to better the learning environment for all. More so, I strive to create more paths for students to curve out the futures easier to foresee success. Do stay updated on such matters by following my Instagram account @philip.president or my personal snapchat account @frank_laine.

ASA Vice President Academic 2019/2020 - Tanner Gausvik

Oh hi! My name is Tanner Gausvik, and it is my pleasure to be Augustana’s VP Academic this year. I am a third-year English major with the hope of eventually becoming a teacher, before coming to Augustana, I lived in on a farm on the edge of a small, rural Alberta town, and when I am not on-campus in the ASA office, the library, or on one of many committees, I will be either gaming, or getting dragged around town on random adventures with my friends.

As your VP Academic, it will be my responsibility to keep the students of Augustana informed on the changes coming to the academic system, as well as voicing their concerns to the administration. Through this communication, we can ensure that we, as students, have access to the best education that Augustana can offer. I am also the person you come to see when you have an academic concern you would like to be investigated. Finally, it is also my responsibility to review and revise ASA bylaws and policies, so that the organization can run as smoothly as
possible.

Feel free to come up and say hi to me whenever you see me! I don’t bite (much)! I’m
always happy to talk!
